RAILROAD

• The California Central Railroad is unable to find the additional funding to extend railway to Auburn. Track construction stops north of Granite Bay and the remaining funds are used to build an improved tollroad to Auburn along the right of way. Many PCs opposed this stoppage – but Gilbert and Sam’s vocal opposition raised the ire of C.K. Garrison.
• The San Francisco & San Jose Railroad is funded. Many PCs favored this railroad – and Jane and Jost’s ardent support was approved of by Juana Birones.
• The San Joaquin Valley Railroad is funded.
• The San Diego Railroad is funded.
• The San Francisco & Marysville RR fails to be funded. Many PCs opposed this stoppage – but Gilbert’s vocal opposition raised the ire of J.G. North

LOCAL NEWS

• James Curtis successfully gets reprieves for several Vigillante Cmte members convicted of violent crimes, and immediately hires them into the SFPD.
• San Francisco will get gaslights on its major streets, thanks to Peter Donahue’s new “Union Gas Works” located at Potrero Point.
• Two major projects were not approved – expanding public water service south of Market Street, and rezoning to reduce fire and health hazards on Semaphore Hill. Mayor Burr is quite unhappy (and unpopular) as both were considered easy wins.
